WHAT: MOUNTAIN BIKE TOUR - 184 miles.

WHERE: GEORGETOWN (Washington, DC) TO CUMBERLAND, MD

WHEN: Saturday, October 4 - Monday October 6, 2008. Begin 8:00 a.m. Saturday in Georgetown. Return by 8:30 p.m. Monday evening. 60-65 miles per day.

WHO: OPEN TRIP. AM I CAPABLE? The trip is designed so INTERMEDIATE CYCLISTS will enjoy the tour, and will afford ADVANCED CYCLISTS time to explore on their own. Not recommended for inexperienced cyclists. Tour leaders will provide information, maintenance support, and assistance with cycling or lodging related issues. Any active person should be able to complete the tour. There is no age limit, however, discretion should be used to ensure participants are capable of riding 60+ miles in one day. Space in the van to carry cyclists who opt not to ride segments is limited.

COST: $475 per person includes: Map; extensive cue and Canal historical fact booklet; custom luggage tags; tour guides; breakfast and large picnic style lunch each day; snacks; various drinks; two nights (double occupancy) lodging in hotels (Harpers Ferry, WV and Hancock, MD); baggage shuttle between hotels; periodic vehicular support along trail; and charter bus return transportation from Cumberland, MD to starting location. NOT INCLUDED: Mt. Bike rental (if needed). A limited number of rental bikes are available for the trip for $75.

TERRAIN: Level. Packed dirt and crushed stone surface. 6-8 feet wide. Mountain or hybrid bicycles required.

RATING: Moderate. The terrain is easy, but the distance on rough surface requires a moderately high fitness level.

DISTANCES are as follows:

DAY 1: Georgetown, DC to Harpers Ferry, WV 62 miles

DAY 2: Harpers Ferry, WV to Hancock, MD 65 miles

DAY 3: Hancock, MD to Cumberland, MD 60.5 miles

LIMIT: about 30 people.

PAYMENT AND RESERVING A SPOT: A $100 DEPOSIT is required to sign up for the trip, due to transportation, lodging and food commitments. Balance is due by September 1, 2008. Cancellations will forfeit the deposit. Trip filled in the order deposits are received, followed by an ordered waiting list. *Late registration (after September 1, 2008), or late payment of balance due, costs $25 extra, and may result in loss of spot.
